Pantone has announced its top ten colors for Spring 2013. And as compared to the glorious tangerine of the last spring, the list is topped by Monaco Blue, a hybrid of dull navy and cobalt followed by Dusk Blue. For many people Monaco Blue is a little boring color and it may seem an odd choice for the season of blossoms.
But Pantone Color Institute’s executive director, Leatrice Eiseman has a different explanation for the selection. “The shade speaks to the practicality that we are seeing in society. You have to realize there is still concern out there for the economy.” Pantone defines the color as “a classic shade that offers stability and depth to the entire palette.” It’s not bright cobalt or a cornflower blue, the color is somewhere in between the two with a shot of sparkle. And names like Tommy Hilfiger, Lela Rose and Tia Cibani are the fans of the color as it looks good on everyone.
Similarly, Dusk Blue is considered as a shade that ‘offers calming sense of serenity many consumers look for in their hectic lives’.
While the top two are the shades of blue, it doesn’t mean we all have to walk like blueberries the entire spring and have to miss the colorful glamour of the time. The next two colors in the list are both greens – Emerald and Grayed Jade.
Emerald is the signature color of spring and Pantone marked it as ‘a lively, radiant green that inspires insight and clarity while enhancing our sense of well-being.’ And while it’s quite a few years the emerald earrings of Angelina Jolie wore at the Academy Awards still looks so cool and fresh. It is probably because every time you see a color, it has a positive impact on your mind, which builds up your confidence in it. And this is exactly the case with emerald.
The other shades of the list are Linen, Poppy Red, African Violet, Tender Shoots, Lemon Zest and Nectarine, the not-so-bright cousin of Tangerine.
Now that we have the list, let’s check out how these spring colors will define jewelry.
